Winternationals Survive Cool Weekend on Pinehurst #2

Village of Pinehurst, NC
December 11, 2016

The Winternational Junior Series took on two of Pinehurst classic layouts, the famed Pinehurst No. 2 and the always challenging Pinehurst No. 3. These high school aged boys and girls played one round on each, in that order, under some rather chilly conditions.

Ike Joy of Denver, NC won the boys Freshman/Sophomore division in wire to wire fashion. His rounds of 77-72=149 were good enough to defeat runner-up Josh Lendach of Raleigh, NC. Both Joy and Lendach were tied following their round on Pinehurst No. 2 however it was Joy’s two under par 34 on the back nine of Pinehurst No. 3 that spelled the difference. In third place was Keegan Shreves of Potomac, MD with rounds of 78-76=154.

In the Junior/Senior Division another Denver, NC native, Justin Morgan took home the crown and narrowly defeated runner-up Trey Capps of Garner, NC . Morgan, a Lincoln Charter School senior, was three shots out of the lead following Saturday’s first round on Pinehurst No. 2 and came back to post the low round of the division. His final round score of 73 was just enough to edge our first round leader Trey Capps who posted two rounds of 78. Finishing third was Carter Cheek of Cary, NC who also tied for low round of the division on Pinehurst No. 3.

Mogie Adamchik of Raleigh, NC posted two solid rounds to claim the Girls Division title. Her 80-76=156 was good enough for a convincing win over runner-up Mallory Fobes of East Bend, NC.  Adamchik is a senior out of Leesville High School and is slated to play for the Appalachian State University women’s golf team next fall.

The Winternational Junior Series will hold its fourth event on January 7-8, which will take place on Pinehurst No. 8.  Please visit www.juniorgolfpinehurst.com or contact Peter deYoung, Inc. at (910) 295-5661 to register or for further information.
