2018-2019 Players of the Year and All Americans

The twenty-fifth annual Winternational Junior Series at Pinehurst concluded its season this weekend on the Pinehurst No. 5 Course. Over one hundred and fifty school boys and girls were members during the 2018-2019 Season.  The Winternationals, an eight-tournament series, has been based in Pinehurst since its inception and conducts championships on all of the Pinehurst Championship layouts.  Competition was held in three separate divisions, Junior/Senior, Freshman/Sophomore and Girls. Only a player’s top four finishes count towards the POY honors in each age division.

In the Junior-Senior Division, Chase Clayton of Locust, NC claimed his second consecutive Player of the Year (POY) honors with his stellar play this series. The West Stanly School Senior captured three event titles and one top five finish on the year.

Others from the Junior-Senior Division named All-Americans were; Owen Swavely (Mooresville, NC), Harrison Wierse (Wilmington, NC), Owen Woods (Maxton, NC), and Brendan Kelly (Raleigh, NC).

In the Freshman/Sophomore Division, Colin Dutton led the way much of the season with three wins and two top 5 finishes in each of his five events played. Colin in a sophomore out of Foxfire, NC

Others from the Freshman/Sophomore Division named All-Americans were; Daniel Adkins (Holly Springs, NC), David Oliver, IV (Pageland, SC), Chris Ha (Fayetteville, NC), Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC)

Mallory Fobes of East Bend, NC won her third consecutive Player of the Year honor. Late season wins in events #6 and #7 helped narrowly edge out Jaclyn Kenzel of Southern Pines and Mara Hirtle of Pinehurst who also earned All-American honors for the Girls.

Ten high school boys and three girls were awarded All-American status because of their tournament results for the eight events. The point system is based on the four highest point totals for each individual across the eight-event series.  The Winternational All-Americans and their hometown are:
