Winternationals Take on Redesigned Course No. 4 in Event 4

Village of Pinehurst, NC
January 5, 2020

The Winternational Junior Series played the highly-praised Gil Hanse re-designed No. 4, host site of the 2019 U.S. Amateur this past August. This region of North Carolina known as the Sandhills proved why it is an ideal location to build golf courses. After having received over an inch of rain the night prior, the course was in great shape. Both rounds greeted players with strong gusts of winds and temperatures in the low 50’s. Sixty-two Winternational members competed over the weekend.

Alan Van Asch of Raleigh, NC claimed his second victory of the 2019-2020 series. Van Asch’s rounds of 72-74-146 were enough to defeat Cameron Hardison of Greenville, SC and Nick Goellner of Apex, NC by 5 shots. Goellner shot a fantastic 1-under par 71 in tough conditions on Saturday’s opening round. Van Asch caught him early in the final round and went on for his 5 shot victory. In fourth place was Mason Eggleston of Williamsburg, VA with a two-day total of 152.

In the Girls Division, Ella Perna of Durham, NC took first-place honors. Her consistent rounds of 78-74-152 were good enough for an eleven shot margin over runner-up Jaclyn Kenzel of Southern Pines, NC. Perna’s 74 in the final round was highlighted by two birdies. In third place was Lotte Fox of Raleigh, NC with a two-day total of 164.

The Junior/Senior Division saw Robert Dudeck III of Williamsburg, VA notch his second victory of the series with a 78-74-152 total. Dudeck came from two shots back to defeat Adam Hathaway of Greenville, NC by three shots. Dudeck’s final round 74 was the low round of the division for the entire weekend. In third place was Rohan Saxena of Ashburn, VA with a 158 two-day total.

The Winternational Junior Series will play its fifth event of the year on Pinehurst No. 5 on January 18-19.
